Lambda Chi Alpha to Return to Texas Tech

The General Fraternity of Lambda Chi Alpha is excited to announce the return of the fraternity to Texas Tech University, located in Lubbock, Texas, with the establishment of a colony in the fall semester of 2012.

Lambda Chi Alpha was initially chartered at Texas Tech University in the spring of 1976 as the Sigma-Nu chapter of the fraternity. The chapter was deemed inactive by the fraternity’s board of directors in 2001 at the request of the active and alumni members of the chapter, with the intent to recolonize in the future.

Bill Farkas, Lambda Chi Alpha’s Executive Vice-President, is happy for the return of Lambda Chi Alpha to Texas Tech University.

“Lambda Chi Alpha is committed to returning to campuses where we previously had chapters. Texas Tech University is one of those special campuses where we want to have a presence. Lambda Chi Alpha will work with the university and the alumni to give the best experience possible to the men of the interest group at Texas Tech,” said Farkas.

The return of Lambda Chi Alpha comes at time when the Greek community at the university is thriving. Once colonized, Lambda Chi Alpha will become the 24th active fraternity at Texas Tech. Elsewhere in the Greek community, there are currently 11 Panhellenic sororities, 9 multicultural groups, and 6 National Pan-Hellenic groups.

Two staff members of the international fraternity will arrive on campus in mid August to begin the expansion process. Men interested in becoming founding fathers of the colony should contact fraternity staff member Nick Ludwig at 317-696-7912 or nludwig@lambdachi.org.

Today, Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. is one of the largest men’s general fraternities in North America with more than 275,000 initiated members, with 200 active chapters at colleges and universities throughout North America. Lambda Chi Alpha was the first fraternity to eliminate pledging in the early 1970s, and remains as one of the most progressive fraternities in the North-American Interfraternity Conference to address challenges facing today’s collegiate student.
